Business Process Manuals – Recipe book for your business

Business Process Manuals are to a business owner, what a recipe book is to a chef. In order to prepare a meal, a chef requires ingredients, cooking instructions and they must know the expected outcome in terms of taste, what it should look like etc.

For a business owner, process manuals are a recipe book.

  • Ingredients = Tools – what is available for use to complete the task
  • Instructions = Process – the method to follow to complete the task
  • Meal = Outcome – the result of the tools used in the specified method

If you do not follow the recipe, you cannot guarantee the results. However, if you follow the recipe to the tee, then you can guarantee the results.

A business owner that shares the recipe book can delegate the cooking. A shared recipe book enables the team to work consistently and efficiently towards achieving the results. This exposes the team to how the ingredients and the cooking instructions affect the outcome of the meal – this creates value and it empowers the team. Over time, those that become very good at producing the meal faster or enhancing the flavors can provide input on how to improve the recipe and the rest of the team can learn how to produce the meal faster or with enhanced flavors (i.e. continuous improvement).
