Are you an employer? How long did it take you to hire your first employee?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I read on \u201cwhat kind of entrepreneurs become employers\u201d and\nit states that start-ups in the US tend to make their first hire within three\nyears. After reading the article<\/a>\nI started looking for these stats for South African or African start-ups and\ncouldn\u2019t find much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Africa is dependent on SMEs scaling to curb poverty, yet we aren\u2019t getting the right level of support to employ more people. There are multiple barriers to market entry and the regulations on employment don\u2019t make it any easier. Also there\u2019s so much else to consider before hiring, much like Jenny Retief points out in 5 Tips to hiring your first employee<\/a>. That’s why it can be overwhelming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s for this reason I\u2019m excited about the Employer Support Program<\/a> launching in November.\nThis will assist SMEs become \u201cthe employer of choice\u201d, hence I was reading up\non such. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
